What's Going On In First Grade? Sept. 16th Curricular Update

Literacy:  In writing, students are learning to zoom in and tell a "small moment" story.
In reading, students are learning how to read with fluency (accuracy, rate, expression and punctuation).

Portuguese: Continuaremos a estudar os sons das vogais em Português e a formação das sílabas a partir da análise dos nomes dos alunos.

Math:  Students are identifying the minute and hour hands on the clock and telling time to the hour. They are working with pennies and nickels by finding the values of these coins put together. 

Science: Students will recognize that magnets have polarity and understand that poles may either repel or attract each other.  Students will state a rule for when poles repel or attract each other.

Social Studies:  Students will learn we need rules to be fair, to get along , to be safe and to learn.
