SUPER MATH MALL!
Throughout the year, our class has been learning about money which has helped us count, add and subtract by 5's, 10,s and 1's. Now it’s time to apply what we’ve been learning! On Friday, June 2 Ms. Keane's Math Mall will open for business! Between the hours of 1:30-2:30, family and friends are invited to visit the Math Mall to make purchases. Prices will be between 5 and 95 centavos.
To prepare for the Math Mall, each student will need to provide a service or sell goods. Services could include tattoos, portraits, fortune telling, a magic show, joke telling, singing, dancing, arcade games with prizes, etc. Stores could sell cookies, popcorn, bookmarks, pencils, erasers, snacks, drinks, artwork, home-made jewelry, origami, paper airplanes, stickers, used books, used toys, candy, crafts, etc. I am also requesting that each student bring in a variety of centavos to practice with and then use as change for customers. Coins worth 5, 10, 25, and 50 centavos should be brought to class by Wednesday, May 24.
The Math Mall will be open for about an hour and we anticipate over 100 shoppers so students who sell goods should have at least 25 to 50 items to sell.
Next week our class will be discussing what kind of goods and services would work best so your child can have an idea of what they’d like to do. These items should be made and packaged at home. Family members can definitely help out! If your child wishes to price their items at home, please make sure prices are clearly marked. Nothing should be more than 95 centavos. The purpose of the Math Mall is to give students an opportunity to mentally add prices and to make change for amounts under R$1.
In the morning, students from my class will have an opportunity to shop at Ms. Burnquist's Math Mall. Students can bring up to 2 Reais in coins to go shopping.
Students will have time at school to make signs, price their products and organize their businesses. All items to be sold should be brought to the classroom the morning of June 2. If your child is unable to complete this project at home, please contact me so I can help. Thank you in advance for your support!
