Dear Parents,
Welcome to 2nd grade! We are really looking forward to meeting and building a relationship with you and your child. We are sure to have a successful and positive school year.
The first weeks of second grade will be all about getting to know each other and creating our ideal classroom, talking about what our goals for second grade are and how we will accomplish these goals. We will begin the foundations of our reading and writing workshops, as well as learn some of our math routines. When they are not in our classrooms students will be attending a variety of specials.
We would like to inform you that we have transitioned to an 8 day schedule. Please keep our schedule at hand to help your child be ready for the school day. Within these 8 days, your child will have Portuguese every day, Brazilian social studies 2x, Music 2x, Art 2x, Library 1x and P.E 3x. We strongly encourage your child to either come in sneakers every day or leave a pair at school for P.E days. A bag with an extra set of clothes is also recommended. These items will all remain in school.
Communication is key in a successful partnership. Throughout the year, you will be able to view important information, see photos and videos of your child at work, see samples of student work and much more here on our blog. We suggest subscribing to the blog right away.
We will be hosting our open house on August 31st. On that evening, we will further explain our curriculum and what homework will look like in 2nd grade. Until then we would like your child to read for 20 minutes every night. (Raz Kids is a fantastic resource.)
Please note that we will open the door no earlier than 7:55. If students arrive earlier they are welcome to wait outside. Class begins promptly at 8:05.
