2nd Grade- Curriculum Update

Social Studies:
We have wrapped up 1st Social Studies unit. We had many discussions around the following questions.
  1. What will make our classroom community a good one to be a part of?
  2. How can we practice the Eagle Way in many areas of the school? (classroom, hallways, playground)
  3. What are internal and external characteristics?
  4. Which characteristics would we want in an ideal friend?

Math:
We are diving into Unit 2 which explores making up and representing addition and subtraction number stories.
Students will review and apply alternative strategies for addition and subtraction. In Everyday Mathematics, the ability to recall number facts instantly is called “fact power.” Instant recall of the addition and subtraction facts will become a powerful tool in computation with multi-digit numbers, such as 29 + 92.

Literacy:
Students have been learning that tricky words are not only words that are difficult to read but also words we can read but we don't know their meaning. In writing we are learning to write with our senses and using them to make our narrative stories more powerful.
