2nd Grade- Curriculum Update

Math:

In Unit 4, addition and subtraction number stories are used as a vehicle for

developing mental arithmetic skills. They will use a variety of diagrams to problem solve.

This unit has three main areas to focus:

* To solve number stories and be able to explain it,

* To read and show temperatures

* To develop different strategies for adding 2-and 3- digit numbers (the partial sums

addition algorithm).

Literacy:  

We are starting off our next reading unit. The 1st part of this unit focuses on

reading with fluency. 2nd graders will be taught that rereading is very powerful and

is the best way to change the voice in their heads. They will pay attention not only

to their own reading voices but also to the voices of the characters, reading those

voices the way the author intended.

Writing:

Students are beginning their opinion writing unit. They will develop opinions about their

reading and preferences in general. Students will learn to state opinions clearly and support these ideas with reasons and evidence.

Social Studies:

Next week, we will transition back to Social Studies, students will learn about different kinds of communities such as urban, suburban and rural. Students will learn about maps and how to navigate them.

Estamos trabalhando com ortografia. Nosso foco é AN e AM em Português, que tem o mesmo som de UN em Inglês e gera certas confusões e dúvidas. Trabalhamos através de exercícios e brincadeiras para que os alunos entendam as especificidades de cada língua.

PAL:
In PAL, we have been practicing the alphabet in Portuguese through different songs. Students will engage in activities that will make them compare and contrast the sound of letters in Portuguese and English.
