Curriculum Update

Reading

Nonfiction readers know how to gather information for one topic across many books.  Gathering information includes looking for key details and organizing them according to main ideas.  Students will identify the different text features that nonfiction book possess such as table of contents, captions, index, glossary, etc.

Science/Writing

Students have finished learning how to write lab reports and will now focus on writing information books.  By choosing a topic that they are passionate about, students will become experts! After reading all about their chosen topics, students will learn ways to organize their ideas and key details. Their finished product will be an information book complete with a title page, table of contents, introduction, chapters, pictures, conclusion, index and glossary. Throughout this unit, students are encouraged to write more about their own ideas versus copying sentences from a book.

Math

Students will be finishing up unit 7 by collecting data to create frequency tables, draw line plots and make bar graphs. Analyzing the data is the main focus.  One way data is analyzed is by comparing figures. How much more? How much less? About how many times as much? What fraction of?

After watching O Saci, one of the most watched episodes of Sítio do Picapau Amarelo, students will answer comprehension activities about the film. They will also be learning about describing people and writing riddles about Sitio do Picapau Amarelo’s characters to share with their classmates.

Portuguese

Nas próximas duas semanas os alunos do 2o ano estarão trabalhando com concordância nominal, a partir de exercícios baseados no livro "Cacoete" que lemos em classe, e de exercçios especialmente elaborados para este fim. Os alunos estão aprendendo que, em Português, temos que prestar atenção para que as palavras "combinem entre si" (gênero, número e grau).

A seguir, partiremos para o estudo das características dos Contos de Fadas, que detalharemos em duas semanas.
