Vacation Update- December 12, 2018

Dear 3rd-Grade Families,

It has been a wonderful semester! As you prepare for the holidays, consider the following ideas for continuing learning at home, or on the road as you travel!

Science: Please start collecting and saving recycled materials to be used for our next science unit on sound. Remember to wash and dry recycled food containers!

Reading: Please read every day!  You may choose to join the "LS Reads" initiative by reading Flora & Ulysses, which is available for free on Tumblebooks.com (Username: Graded, password: books) We've enjoyed reading Chapter 1 in class together!
If you need some book recommendations while on break, here is a great recommended book list.
Don't forget to log-in to Raz-kids.com to read loads of "good-fit books".

Writing:  Students please share your holiday stories by completing the Holiday Slide Show. This is an optional vacation assignment.  Click on the link to learn more about it.
We are looking forward to hearing about all of the great books you read on the break and seeing your wonderful holiday stories on your slideshow!

Math:  Students may work on Skills Navigators,  Khan Academy or Mathletics.com. They should practice their math skills 3-5 times per week during the holidays.

A couple of areas in math to  review:

  • Continue memorizing multiplication facts to 10x10
  • Start memorizing division facts

It is important for Math to come alive in everyday situations. Please refer to this site for ideas on how to make mathematical thinking visible to your child.
