Curriculum Update
Language Arts
With only seven weeks left of the school year, our third graders have been busy with some exciting
projects in both reading and writing. We are looking forward to completing our research on our culture
and then moving right into the study of biographies. We look forward to sharing our learning with our
families at the end of May with an exciting Biographies Celebration!

Social Studies
During our social studies unit, our focus has been on learning about culture, society and identity.
Students have compared and contrasted cultural characteristics of different countries. Students have
learned that different cultures meet humans needs in different ways. Most importantly, students have learned
that despite our differences in language, religion, art, music, and food we are all part of one human
family. Next week students will begin studying biographies. Students will identify a person who is a changemaker
and provide reasons with evidence. The unit will tie together our work in reading and writing.
Students will be reading biographies and identifying what makes their chosen person a changemaker.
Students will then write a persuasive piece with a thesis statement and reasons with evidence.

Math
We will continue consolidating our understanding of multiplication and division. We will also be using
upcoming MAP data to inform what we will be reviewing with the students as we come finish off the school year.

The best thing parents can do to support Math at home is to show how Math integrates in your everyday like. Including your child in your day-to-day mathematical reasoning is an invaluable way to extend and apply their understanding. Here is a resource you can use to help you bring Math to life at home.
