Homework folders containing assignments for the entire week went home today. There are four reading books and four math home links. Having your child do all the homework in one day is not encouraged. Instead, develop a routine by setting a specific time and place each day for your child to complete one book and one math home link per day which should take no more than 20 minutes.
To begin, have your child read their book to you a few times in order to develop fluency. Ask your child questions about their book. Get them to make connections (What did this book remind you of?).
Within the homework folder is a Unit 1 Family Letter for the math home links. This letter will give you a brief overview of our first math unit. Keep this letter at home. As for the homework, parents may need to read the instructions for each home link but students can complete most of the math work on their own. It's okay if they make mistakes.
If your child is struggling with their homework, please write me a note and we can make an adjustment. If the reading books are too easy for your child, let me know and I can assign your child to a higher reading level.
This week also includes a brief parent survey to help me get to know your child better. Thank you in advance for filling it out.
The homework folder with the four books and the completed math home links needs to be returned Friday morning.
Library books need to be returned on Monday or Tuesday. New library books go home on Tuesday. The difference between the library books and the 4 reading books is that students choose their own library books and I choose the 4 reading books for them which are at their level.
Please have your child pack their own bag so they know what's in it. Thanks!
