What's Going on in First Grade? Curricular update for April 24th

Math: The students are working on extending their place value concepts to hundreds. They are counting up as a strategy for making change. The students are developing an understanding of fractional parts of a whole.


Literacy: Students are learning to study characters in books. They are learning that characters have inner and outer traits. Students are also learning to reread in order to learn even more about the characters. Their likes, dislikes, their wants, and their feelings changing throughout the book. Every time we reread, we notice new details and understand the character in new ways.


Social Studies: Students are learning about how families are special and how they can be alike and different focusing on family members, activities, family household, and traditions.

Portuguese: Os alunos terminarão a pesquisa coletiva sobre o Macaco-Prego e iniciarão a pesquisa em duplas sobre um animal ameaçado de extinção que eles escolherão. Neste processo, estão colocando em prática diversas estratégias para a leitura de textos informativos.

Science: Students will complete experiments focusing on air that will help them learn more about the properties of a gas.  Gases can be compressed.  Gases have mass.  Gases flow and take the shape of their container.
